orthodontic treatment Lakewood, California

There are many orthodontic treatments available these days. Braces and other appliances help straighten abnormal teeth so they are easier to clean, and at less risk for disease and decay.

What is Acceledent?

AcceleDent is a device that vibrates and speeds up orthodontic treatment by using vibrations known as micropulses. It does this through a mouthpiece, which fits over your braces or aligners for 20 minutes each day.

What are clear aligners?

Clear aligners, also known as invisible aligners, are a type of orthodontic treatment that straightens crooked teeth. They are made of transparent plastic and are virtually invisible and removable. They are a great alternative to braces because of their convenience and flexibility.

At Mimi M. Cabanban Family Dentistry DDS, we offer clear aligners, ClearCorrect Aligners and Invisalign. To learn if aligners are good for you, follow this link.

What are Damon braces?

The Damon system is a fixed appliance in orthodontics that is passive and self-ligating. Passive self-ligating systems use brackets that do not require elastic o-rings to hold the wires in place.

A slide mechanism is used to hold the archwire, reducing the amount of pressure on the teeth and allowing the teeth to move more freely, quickly, and comfortably.

What Are Lingual Braces?

Lingual braces move the teeth exactly like traditional braces except they are placed behind the teeth rather than in front so as not to be seen. They offer a great cosmetic alternative for those who want their teeth straightened without seeing metal braces.

What is Opal Seal?

Opal Seal is a revolutionary orthodontic primer that both keeps the brackets securely in place and improves enamel health during orthodontic treatment.

It acts as a seal to protect your teeth from decalcification and decay and also reinforces your enamel by releasing fluoride. It lasts several months and can be reapplied when necessary.

What is an orthodontic mouthguard and why do I need one?

Injuries to the teeth, mouth and jaws are the most common injuries that occur on the field. The use of a mouthguard while wearing braces can protect your teeth from the impact of the injury itself and will protect your lips, cheeks and tongue from mouth lacerations, if you are hit by a ball, bat or another player. All orthodontists recommend wearing mouth guards during sports.

A mouthguard is made of flexible material that fits snugly over the teeth to help prevent injuries to the teeth and mouth. An orthodontic mouthguard needs to fit well and be reformable, so it can be reshaped to fit your teeth as they move into their new positions. To learn more click here.

What are Powerprox 6 Month Braces?

Six Month Powerprox Braces is another orthodontic treatment option that shortens the amount of time needed to correct your smile.

What is retention after braces?

Retention is the final phase in your orthodontic treatment journey. Once your braces have been removed, the retention phase begins. Retention ensures your newly straightened teeth stay in their new position and don’t slip back to their old ways.

What is Six Month Smiles?

Six Month Smiles is a quick and effective alternative to conventional braces. Tooth-colored brackets and wires straighten teeth and close gaps on the front teeth so it offers quick results and minimal discomfort.
